The Repurposing of the Chan was a concept design for a government tender issued in 2015. Our design focuses on the bringing of a state of the art arts and museums facility of the MAGNT.

 

Currently, The Chan building exists as an iconic piece of Darwin’s history and the concept of ‘rebuilding Darwin’ was embodied in this with the twisting, turning, and pulling of geometric shapes which protrude from an external skin of glazing, encasing the original building to preserve its history, whilst simultaneously delivering a contemporary arts facility to Darwin City with the ‘Wow’ factor.
